June 14 (IANS): Bengaluru State-owned buses are seeing a significant increase in the number of female passengers since the Congress government in Karnataka introduced the “Shakthi scheme” for free travel for women, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), 41.34 lakh women traveled on state-owned buses from midnight on June 12 to 12 p.m.
Government expenditures total Rs. 8.83 crore.
In and around the state capital, 17.57 lakh women rode buses operated by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), whereas 11.40 lakh women rode KSRTC, 8.30 lakh women rode NWKRTC, and 4.40 lakh women rode KKRTC.
