Telangana has the second‑highest number of typhoid and paratyphoid deaths in India for 2023, according to the official data from the Registrar General of India. The state reported 202 deaths due to these diseases, making up roughly 19 % of all typhoid‑related deaths nationwide, even though it has only about 2.5 % of India’s population.

🔝 Only Uttar Pradesh recorded more typhoid and paratyphoid deaths (377), placing Telangana second in terms of fatalities. Punjab and Delhi followed with fewer deaths.

Health experts point to poor sanitation, contaminated water and food, delayed treatment, and healthcare gaps as factors contributing to the high toll, and they stress the importance of improved water quality, food safety, and timely diagnosis and care.
