In a major step toward strengthening flood protection infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a ₹294-crore flood protection wall along the banks of the Krishna River. The project aims to safeguard low-lying areas and nearby communities from recurring flood threats during the monsoon season.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lokesh said the construction of the flood wall would significantly reduce the risk of inundation in vulnerable regions and protect homes, agricultural lands, and public infrastructure. He emphasized that the state government is committed to investing in long-term solutions that ensure the safety and well-being of residents living along the river.

According to officials, the project will include a reinforced embankment and modern flood-control structures designed to withstand high water levels. The wall is expected to strengthen disaster preparedness and minimize economic losses caused by seasonal flooding.

Local leaders and officials who attended the event welcomed the initiative, stating that the project would bring relief to thousands of residents who face flood risks every year. Once completed, the Krishna flood wall is expected to become a crucial part of the region’s flood management system.

Authorities said construction work will begin soon and will be carried out in phases to ensure quality and timely completion. The project reflects the government’s broader focus on improving infrastructure and enhancing protection against natural disasters in river-side areas.
