Nizamabad — Unseasonal rains have caused widespread damage to standing crops across the district, leaving farmers in distress and staring at significant financial losses. The sudden showers, accompanied by strong winds in some areas, struck at a crucial stage of crop growth, particularly affecting paddy, maize, and turmeric fields.

Farmers reported that large stretches of farmland were inundated, with harvested produce also getting soaked due to the unexpected downpour. Many had prepared their crops for harvest, but the untimely rains disrupted operations, leading to quality deterioration and reduced market value.

Local agricultural officials have begun preliminary assessments to estimate the extent of the damage. Early reports suggest that several villages in the district have been severely impacted, with small and marginal farmers bearing the brunt of the losses.

Farmers have urged the government to provide immediate compensation and support measures, including crop insurance settlements and input subsidies for the next sowing season. Agricultural experts have also advised farmers to adopt better drainage systems and resilient farming practices to cope with increasingly erratic weather patterns.

The recent rains highlight growing concerns over climate variability and its impact on agriculture, raising questions about preparedness and long-term solutions to safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.
