Amaravati : The Andhra Pradesh government has taken another key decision. The suspension of IPS officer Vishal Gunni, who is facing charges in a controversial case, has been extended once again. The state government’s Chief Secretary (CS) G. Sai Prasad issued orders to this effect. According to the latest orders, the government has decided to extend the suspension of Vishal Gunni till September 4, 2026. The order states that this suspension will be in effect until the completion of the investigation of the criminal case registered against him or till September 4 (whichever is earlier). Vishal Gunni is currently being investigated in case number 469/2024 registered at Ibrahimpatnam Police Station. A high-level review committee met on June 12, 2026 to decide on the period of suspension of Vishal Gunni. In this meeting, the committee recommended extending the suspension, mentioning several key points. The committee opined that since Vishal Gunni is currently in a high police position, if his suspension is lifted, it is likely to affect the evidence in the case. The committee commented that if he returns to duty, the ongoing criminal case investigation may not proceed smoothly and may affect the investigation. The government, which examined the report given by the committee and the provisions of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules-1969, approved the continuation of the suspension. It is known that there were severe criticisms of the role of IPS officers in some controversial developments during the previous YSRCP government, such as the case of Mumbai actress Kadambari Jethwani. After coming to power, the coalition government has been expediting the investigation and taking strict action against the officers who committed the mistake. As part of that, the suspension of Vishal Gunni, who is facing investigation, was imposed, and now it has issued orders extending it for some more time.
