9 February, Amaravati (IANS): In an oil factory in the Kakinada region of Andhra Pradesh, at least seven people perished from suffocation on Thursday.
The event took place at the Ambati Subbanna oil factory’s premises in G. Ragampeta, Peddapuram mandal, district. One by one, the men who were cleaning an oil tanker 24 feet underground each died from suffocation. Two of the deceased came from the village of Pulimeru in the same mandal, while the other five were residents of Paderu in the Alluri Sitaramaraju district.
Vechangi Krishna, Vechangi Narasimham, Vechangi Sagar, Korathadu Banji Babu, Karri Rama Rao, Prasad, and Kattamuri Jagadeesh were the names of the deceased.
The incident shocked everyone in the community.
The plant management allegedly failed to take the essential safety measures, which caused the catastrophe, according to the families of the deceased. Collector Kritika Shukla and District Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu also flocked to the scene. The SP warned that the oil factory’s managers would face criminal charges. The collector informed the grieving relatives that she would advocate for reparations from the government.
