Modi congratulates Meloni, a reflection of faith

Delhi, September 4: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has written a new chapter in Italian political history. She has set a record as the longest-serving Prime Minister of Italy since the Second World War. By remaining in office for 1,413 days, Meloni has surpassed the previous record of 1,412 days held by the government led by Silvio Berlusconi (2001–2005). On the occasion of this historic milestone, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to congratulate Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. “Congratulations to my friend, Prime Minister Meloni, on becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in Italy’s post-war history. This milestone is a reflection of the trust and confidence the Italian people have in her leadership,” PM Modi posted on X.

Emphasising Meloni’s strategic contribution to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties, Prime Minister Modi said, “Her friendship has also played a key role in strengthening the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership. I look forward to building a prosperous future for the people of our two countries and continuing our close cooperation.” In his message of congratulations, Modi also expressed his hope that Meloni would achieve continued success in the years to come. Italian politics, which has seen nearly 68 governments in the 80 years since the end of the Second World War, has rarely seen a government complete a full term. In such a political climate, Meloni, who took office as Italy’s first female Prime Minister in October 2022, has achieved this milestone by providing stable governance.
