Turmeric water purification at KCR’s farmhouse.. Don’t arrest them: High Court

Hyderabad : The Telangana High Court has directed the police not to arrest the individuals who sprinkled turmeric water and cleaned the premises of the farmhouse belonging to BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). The High Court heard a lunch-motion petition on Tuesday concerning the incident at KCR’s farmhouse. The court directed the police to issue notices to the accused and proceed with the investigation in accordance with the law. It questioned the need for arrests in a case involving offences punishable with imprisonment of up to seven years.

The court also referred to the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court regarding arrests and questioned how the police could proceed with arrests despite those directions. The monsoon session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly began on September 7. During the session, BRS leaders staged a protest at the Assembly, alleging that the Congress government had failed to deliver on its promises even after completing 1,000 days in office. The police intervened to prevent the protests.

During the protests, BRS MLCs Tata Madhu and Vijay Kumar Reddy reportedly made critical remarks against Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar. Following the controversy, they were suspended from attending Legislative Council proceedings. Meanwhile, Congress leaders alleged that the BRS protest was part of a conspiracy planned at KCR’s farmhouse in Erravelli. In response to the alleged remarks against the Speaker, Dalit leaders and Congress activists staged a protest at the farmhouse.

Following the protest, BRS workers sprinkled turmeric water and cleaned the premises. The incident drew strong criticism from the Congress government. Congress leaders alleged that the act was intended to insult Dalits, while BRS leaders described the government’s response as an act of political vendetta. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also reacted strongly to the incident and said that a detailed investigation would be conducted. The government warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for acts that insult or humiliate Dalits. Against this backdrop, the Telangana High Court intervened in the matter and issued directions concerning the proposed arrest of those involved in cleaning the farmhouse premises with turmeric water.
