Hyderabad, April 1: The ambitious renovation of the Musi River is gaining traction, with the Telangana government accelerating plans to transform the polluted river into a clean and vibrant urban waterway.

The project, spearheaded under the guidance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, aims to address long-standing environmental concerns, including sewage inflow, industrial pollution, and encroachments along the riverbanks.

Officials said the renovation plan includes the construction of modern sewage treatment plants (STPs), riverfront development, beautification works, and improved flood management systems. The government is also focusing on rehabilitating families living along the river to facilitate smooth execution of the project.

Authorities emphasized that restoring the Musi is critical not only for environmental sustainability but also for enhancing Hyderabad’s urban landscape and boosting tourism. The project envisions creating green corridors, walkways, and recreational spaces along the river.

Senior officials have been directed to ensure coordination among multiple departments and fast-track approvals to avoid delays. Regular monitoring mechanisms are also being put in place to track progress and maintain transparency.

Once completed, the revamped Musi River is expected to significantly improve water quality, reduce health risks, and provide a major boost to the city’s infrastructure and livability.
