Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has ordered a strict crackdown on liquor overpricing across the state after glaring price disparities were brought to his notice. During a review, officials informed him that while the Hyderabad circle had posted a rate of ₹268 for a single unit, Amaravati was restricted to ₹152 for seven units, highlighting serious irregularities in pricing and enforcement.

Expressing strong displeasure, Pawan Kalyan directed the excise department to conduct immediate inspections and take stringent action against liquor outlets charging prices above the prescribed rates. He warned that any tolerance of overpricing, collusion, or negligence by officials would invite disciplinary action.

The Deputy Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure transparent pricing, display of approved rate lists at all liquor shops, and strict monitoring to protect consumers from exploitation. He also asked for a detailed report on price structures, supply chains, and revenue collection to identify loopholes enabling such discrepancies.

Stressing the need for accountability, Pawan Kalyan said the government is committed to curbing illegal practices in liquor sales and ensuring that consumers are not burdened by arbitrary pricing. Special enforcement teams are expected to intensify checks in urban and semi-urban areas in the coming days.
