Hyderabad, March 17, 2026:
In a significant move, the Telangana government has halted financial assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme for 57 farmers in Adilabad district after authorities found them cultivating illegal ganja (cannabis).

According to officials, these farmers have been removed from the beneficiary list for the upcoming installment scheduled for March 22. The Rythu Bharosa scheme is designed to provide investment support to farmers engaged in legitimate agricultural activities, and the government has made it clear that illegal crop cultivation will not be tolerated.

The decision comes as part of stricter enforcement measures to ensure that public funds are directed only to eligible and law-abiding farmers. Authorities emphasized that the scheme’s benefits are conditional upon compliance with agricultural and legal norms.

Officials further stated that this action sends a strong message that misuse of government welfare schemes will lead to disqualification. Meanwhile, the government is continuing preparations to release the next round of financial assistance to lakhs of eligible farmers across the state.
