The Hyderabad Police have issued a public advisory cautioning residents against the consumption of chemically ripened mangoes, highlighting potential health risks associated with artificially induced ripening methods.

According to officials, some vendors are reportedly using hazardous substances such as calcium carbide to accelerate the ripening process. These chemicals can leave toxic residues on the fruit, posing serious health concerns including irritation, respiratory issues, and long-term complications.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious while purchasing mangoes, especially during peak summer season when demand is high. Consumers are advised to look for natural signs of ripening, such as uniform color, natural aroma, and slight softness, while avoiding fruits that appear overly bright, uniformly yellow, or lack fragrance.

The police also encouraged the public to report any suspicious vendors or illegal practices to the concerned authorities. Regular inspections and awareness campaigns are being conducted to curb the sale of unsafe produce in city markets.

Reinforcing their commitment to public safety, Hyderabad Police emphasized that ensuring food quality is a shared responsibility and called on citizens to stay informed and make safe choices.
