Vijayawada, April 8, 2026:
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has called for urgent and collective action to conserve water resources, stressing that safeguarding water today is essential for future generations.

Speaking at a workshop on “Sustainability of Water Resources in Rural Drinking Water Supply Systems” held at APSIRD Bhavan in Vijayawada, he emphasized that “water is life” and must be protected through responsible use and awareness.

Highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s dependence on major rivers such as the Godavari, Krishna, Penna, and Vamsadhara, he noted that these water sources are crucial for agriculture, livelihoods, and overall development. However, he warned that declining groundwater levels and increasing pollution pose serious challenges, particularly in rural and tribal regions.

To tackle the issue, the Deputy CM urged measures such as:

  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Reuse of wastewater
  • Protection of surface and groundwater
  • Watershed rejuvenation projects

He stressed that water conservation cannot be achieved by the government alone and requires active public participation.

As part of the initiative, the state government has launched a 100-day “Water Consumption Drive” from April 6 to July 14, 2026. The campaign aims to promote efficient water use, improve groundwater levels, and create awareness across villages.

The programme is being implemented under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, aligning with the broader goal of ensuring sustainable and safe drinking water supply to every household in the state.
