Amalapuram : State Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu rode a bike to monitor irrigation management in the wake of the rain-deficient conditions in the district. His tour began from Dhavaleswaram Barrage along the Godavari Central Delta canals in Kothapet, P. Gannavaram, Amalapuram and Mummidivaram constituencies. On this occasion, the water levels of the locks were inspected at the field level. In Kothapet constituency, he inspected the black locks along with local MLA Bandaru Satyananda Rao. On this occasion, Minister Nimmala said that this is the first time in the 70-year history that the Godavari river has received such a low inflow in the month of July. He revealed that the current conditions are causing difficulties in the delta, which is designed based on 70 percent canals and 30 percent rains, and that special plans are being prepared to overcome the water shortage, especially in the outskirts of Kakinada Rural, Amalapuram and Mummidivaram. In the wake of the impact of Super El Nino, the Minister ordered that widespread awareness should be created among the officials and farmers to curb water misuse and save every drop. He clarified that irrigation officials from the top to the bottom should continuously monitor the canals and take water conservation measures in coordination with the revenue and water associations. The District Collector should formulate an appropriate action plan with the aim of overcoming the challenge of El Nino by making water management successful.
