Amaravati, May 26: On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed his anger at officials for not carrying out their responsibilities to stop pollution in the Godavari River. He went to the East Godavari district for the second day in a row to personally assess the locations where wastewater is entering the river. The pollution created by the Andhra Paper Mills in Rajamahendravaram was personally examined by the Deputy Chief Minister, who also oversees the environment portfolio. Pawan Kalyan took the Andhra Paper Mills’ discharge of contaminated water into East Lankan lagoons very seriously. He personally visited the location to determine the actual levels of pollution in the nearby waters as well as the degree to which the water is treated before to release. He ordered officials to promptly gather soil and water samples and evaluate them using mobile testing kits. Orders were issued to serve notifications to the industry for violating environmental standards as soon as the testing revealed the presence of pollutants. He also asked representatives of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) about how water hyacinth had grown in the lagoons.
