Amaravati : Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu said that water has been released from Srisailam for the drinking water needs of Rayalaseema. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, he said that in the wake of El Nino, Srisailam waters should be preserved for drinking water till June 2027. He said that in addition to the 119 TMCs present at Srisailam today, another 100 TMCs are expected to flow in the next 10 days. He said that AP is giving priority to drinking water as the first priority of its 63 percent share in Krishna waters. He said that Srisailam reservoir water is being released for drinking water as the first priority in view of El Nino.


The minister revealed that 13 TMCs are required for drinking water needs for reservoirs under Handree Niva. He said that 10 TMCs are being released for drinking water for reservoirs under Pothireddypadu from tomorrow. Also, he said that 10 TMC of water needs to be released for Chennai’s drinking water through Telugu Ganga. He said that 32 TMC of water is required for Nagarjuna Sagar, Right Canal, and Left Canal areas for drinking water. He said that they will review it every week and take planned measures based on rains and floods to deal with the El Nino disaster. Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu ordered that district collectors, irrigation, revenue, and agriculture department officials should coordinate and take measures for water security.
