Hyderabad : BRS MLA and former minister Harish Rao strongly criticised the police for filing cases against farmers who staged a protest demanding the release of water from the Jurala Project. Responding to the issue on Thursday through his X account, Harish Rao said that registering cases against farmers who took to the streets demanding Jurala water for crops that are drying up before their eyes was a highly reprehensible act.He further alleged that under the Revanth Reddy government, it had become routine to handcuff farmers and file cases against them at police stations, calling the situation shameful.

Getting engineers to file cases against farmers is a reflection of the Congress government’s decline. Because of your failure, crops are drying up today due to the lack of water. When distressed farmers take to the roads and question the government, will you foist illegal cases on them? Will you use the police to intimidate them? What kind of injustice is this? What kind of wrongdoing is this? When there were sufficient inflows into the Krishna River, you deliberately neglected to lift water. Instead of conserving and utilizing the available water, you allowed it to flow away, thereby betraying Telangana’s interests. If the Congress government makes a mistake, should farmers be punished for it? When farmers across the state are protesting over the lack of irrigation water and electricity, will you file cases against them instead of resolving their problems? Is this people’s governance or people’s harassment? On behalf of the BRS, we demand that the cases filed against the farmers be withdrawn immediately. If these anti-farmer actions continue, we warn that we will launch a large-scale protest, Harish Rao said.
